Great Classics

One of my goals is to read as many classics that I possibly can and I am having a hard time figuring out where I should start. I am telling you this to ask for your help. What are books that you consider great classics???

Emily would have a lot to say to this list, and it would include many of the titles already listed. She LOVED Jane Eyre (I think Anna has read that already). Bishop has recommended a few classics as well:
Atlas Shrugged
Quo Vadis
Moby Dick
The Robe

That's enough to get started on. I'm trying to still read a couple of those! I get stuck on non-fiction books, which don't tend to be classics, but extremely informative. The big problem right now is over-scheduling your life so that there isn't time for good, hearty reading. And not reading because you have to, or because it's to "get better", or to "study for a sermon", just reading for... PLEASURE.

Yvonne, Thank you for your suggestion. Jane Eyre is one of my favorites. I have read that book so many times over... and I may just read is again. Love it!

Misha, I think I will have to reread To Kill A Mocking Bird and Oliver Twist... its been a while. I do need to read Crime and Punishment; I have heard so many good things about it. Thank you for your suggestions.

Carly, there are so many different definitions of "Classics" :)

Ashley, thank you so much for your input.

James, I have been trying to find The Robe bit it seems to be out of print. :( Quo Vadis is one of my favorites but I am scared of the really thick books. I guess I will have to overcome that fear starting with Moby Dick. Thanks for your suggestions.

Les Miserables by Victor Hugo...even if it is a thick, heavy book! :) Definitely one of my all time favorites!

Sis. Beth, I love the play but I am sure the book is much better. I will most assuredly read Les Miserables. Thank you for commenting. Love you!!! :)
